Wildlife Wednesday – Thirsty? Drinking Fountain!

Thirsty? Drinking Fountain!, originally uploaded by anthonli.

It’s not everyday that birds think that you’re not intimidating and act themselves directly in front of you.

But then, these two sparrows could be just desperate for a drink. One would take a sip while the other keeps watch, then they would swap. All the while, I was standing right in front of them, so close that I had to lean back just to grab this shot (that’s about a metre away)!

This was taken at Hibiya Park, Tokyo, right beside the Imperial Palace.

Travel Thursday – Senso-Ji Gate

Senso-Ji Gate, originally uploaded by anthonli.

This is a long exposure shot of the Senso-Ji Gate at Asakusa.

Taken in the evening, when the lights are on, this gives an HDR feel to the picture, when the long exposure eliminated the shadows, but luckily it is not bright enough to overexpose the sky.

People Monday – New Year Rice Cake Making

New Year Rice Cake Making, originally uploaded by anthonli.

It’s that time of the year in Japan when people of all walks of life prepare to celebrate the New Year (it’s way bigger over there than Christmas)
Here the owner of a company is preparing rice cakes by pounding the dough with a mallet, as the employees and their family look on.
They did invite me to their year end celebration afterwards. And after, they would go off for their year end holiday. During which, most of Japan will come to a standstill as companies close for their employees to take a break.
