People Monday – the Donut Seller

Donut seller, originally uploaded by anthonli.

Along Dong Khoi street in Vung Tau City, you can find this stall which sells pan-fried donuts. Not those empty rings, but dough with bean paste fillings and fried until it’s outside is crisp and the insides remain fluffy.
This stall started out as a push cart when I first came to Vung Tau and their donuts are so popular that they sell out within hours and impatient regular buyers will chip in to help them fry when they get shorthanded.
Now they operate from a stall, but still make the donuts the traditional way, out front for all to see.
There are quite a few stories like this. I guess for them the secret to success is hard work and the right recipe.
