Travel Thursday – The Mekong Delta

201110 Mekong Delta-128, originally uploaded by anthonli.

Today is Vietnam’s National Women’s Day, so happy Women’s Day to all the girls, ladies and aunties in Vietnam.
This photo was taken in the Mekong Delta. The Mekong Delta is filled with many small channels, crisscrossing the entire region, many of these channels a very narrow, just a few metres wide. To navigate, people would ply up and down using small, narrow wooden boats, most would carry just 1 man or woman with goods, or 4 persons.
However, as more roads and bridges are built, the people are now less and less reliant on these boats except for fishermen or farmers who need to ferry cargo to the floating markets
