Wildlife Wednesday – in Flight

Perth 2011, originally uploaded by anthonli.

I love taking pictures of birds in flight, and there are many ways of going about it. One way is to do it the Roy Hancliff method, with elaborate setup and powerful flashes (his photostream is amazing).
I tend to go the cheap and dirty method, which is to loiter around near where the birds are with a long lense and fire away whenever they fly close.
It’s not the most elegant method and there are more misses than hits, but it gets the adrenaline running and there’s a lot of satisfaction when you get a good shot.
An example is this cockatoo coming to land near its friend.
